Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!!! I thought I would start today's post with a shot of some of one of the roses I received from the boy. He did very well! Unfortunately, though, he's working today. BUT he did have yesterday off so we had a bit of an early celebration featuring SUSHI!!!!!!!!
I LOVE sushi! LOVE it! And ever since I left Victoria (in August of 2008) I haven't had any. That's right. Nary a roll had touched my lips in about six months. I now live in a small Rocky Mountain Town where sushi joints are non-existent. So the boy and I decided it was time to remedy that situation. Gathering the ingredients for our sushi evening was somewhat difficult but eventually we managed to find everything. Including a beautiful piece of sushi-quality Atlantic Salmon.
But enough with the talking..................this is Day Four of CFW:
Breakfast consisted of the last bit of my overnight oats with half an apple sliced in, a sprinkling of cinnamon, and some freshly grated nutmeg. For a tinge of sweetness I added a splash of vanilla essence and a bit of sugar-free syrup. All of this was topped off with a little bit of fibre 1 cereal.
My late morning snack consisted of the other half of my apple, Yogi Tea in Green Tea Energy, and a small homemade cherry pie Larabar. I found the recipe for that last goody from Enlightened Cooking and it worked really well! Make sure to refrigerate the bars because they'll taste much better the day after (the flavours settle into each other). Also, make sure to use Fresh dates. Not the dried kind with the pits removed that you find in the bulk section of the grocery store!
My late lunch was a sandwhich from the local Safeway deli. This little was made up of the following: whole wheat bun, oven roasted turkey breast, roasted red pepper, red onions, spinach, a sprinkling of feta cheese, a smear of pesto, and a smear of avocado. I've had this sandwhich before and it's been glorious! Not so much this time. I don't think I'll have it again.
Next came the sushi! Here come some of the ingredients:
Some skewers of shrimp before they were boiled in a brine, alaskan lobster flavoured pollock, Japanese Mayo that we used with some Thai hot sauce to make the spicy sauce for spicy rolls!
Some lovely shitaki mushrooms and cucumbers. Also (not pictured) avocado slices.
Of course the beautiful home-made sushi rice!
The BEAUTIFUL salmon! Yummy!!
And the finished product looked something like this! :o) I had this roll and a small salmon avocado roll. I was a happy camper!! And I think the boy enjoyed "cooking" for the first time in his life. You roll and then you eat - instant gratification! lol
I finished my meal off with 1/3 of a cup of miso soup. I also drank (not pictured) a glass of sparkling water with a splash of POM.

It was a wonderful evening and a lovely meal! My sushi deprived-self loved every moment of it. I think I will repeat it again in the future but next time sashimi style to avoid all the rolling and excess eating of rice. And yup white rice is a violation of CFW rules but I made an exception for Valentine's Dinner!
Now it's time for me to do some yoga and get on with my day. I'm hoping to find a lovely heart shaped plate or bowl on sale - a little something to dress up my future food shots!
